Creating stunning photographs of jewelery is a bit of an art.

You have so many variables to choose from not the least of which is deciding what the best angle is to shoot from.

If you take a look at the photographs above you can see how lighting and backgrounds play an important role in making the images really pop.

The backgrounds are not an afterthought. They are painstakingly chosen in order to compliment and enhance the jewelry piece itself.

For example take a look at image #4. Do you think a white background could even touch the sophisticated atmosphere the dark reflective surface imbues in this photograph?

Or lets explore the reverse scenario in picture #9. If this piece was photographed on a dark reflective background, all the details in this intricate gold necklace would have been utterly lost.

And as every photographer knows, lighting is everything. The gorgeous necklace in image #15 has a beautiful spot light feature on it. The photographer deliberately chose not to feature the whole piece but rather just the main section people would notice - and then highlighted it.

Anyone can photograph jewelry and have it look good. But only a few understand the art of photographing jewelry deeply enough to be able to fill the viewer with a compelling desire to own the piece. Now that's photography!
