I love how a photograph can elicit a myriad of emotions not only from the audience for which it was intended but also from photographers as well.

On one hand, someone who has never been to a tropical island before and dreams of travelling would be hard pressed not to be entranced at the beauty the photographs are portraying.

On the otherhand, a photographer could look at the images and see them as technically perfect yet lifeless.

Which one is right? In my mind both are.

It all comes down to perspective.

A photographer who wants to push himself to the limits of his creative ability and create awe inspiring images cannot expect to look at a photograph of Hawaii the same way a person who dreams of going there some day.

Photography is in many way like art. You either create it to please yourself or your audience. But the final verdict as to whether a image is good, bad or otherwise can only happen in the silence of our own minds.

Yes they're very, very nice photographs. Technically perfect.
And lifeless.
Only about a third of them are unmistakably Hawaii, the rest could be anywhere and I've seen -as we all have - the same type of lovely shot presented as being from countless other locations. It's as though photographers are saying; 'look! I can do that as well'.
They need to have something special about them, something that sets a standard and raises the bar. None of these do.
About the only one that has potential, is the dragon boat one. That one I'd have worked on longer and got something a lot more dramatic out of - and tried to make it a lot less 'ooh, thanks for the lovely postcard dear'-ish.
