THUMBNAILS
Love horizontal headshots but if you are an actor using headshots for casting submissions on sites like actorsaccess keep in mind the importance of the thumbnail. The small thumbnails can be centered at 160px width and 180px height. Thumbnails can be clicked on and viewed at a larger size within a 500x700 pixel window. If you upload a horizontal image full view will be restricted to the 500px width window and the large preview will be 500x357 pixels. A vertical shot with a large preview of 500x700 shows more of you since unless you are laying down humans are vertical thus showing more of you beyond the 160x180 small thumbnail verses with a horizontal shot seeing the same amount of you and more background. Also keep in mind though the horizontal headshots seem to draw you in to the person in the image, they will have a different perspective when cropped to a vertical thumbnail. Most headshot photographers know this and will shoot mainly vertical pics in a shoot. Horizontal shots are cool and can work well for prints with hard copy still required for some features and bigger roles but, just know they will need to look good when cropped down to a thumbnail.
